I got a Mexi-strat for the body and hardware for a mutt I'm doing. I've got a different neck to put on there, so now I need to decide what to do with this Mexi-strat neck. The frets are pretty skinny, I'm assuming they're the vintage frets. Here's my question, since the neck is essentially made in the US and finished in Mexico, it's a great neck. But would it be worth it to have a tech/luthier refret the neck to something I'd like so I can use it down the road? Or would I just be better off selling it and getting a different neck with different frets later on?

eh, i'd slap it on a body and try it out for awhile, but that's me. i prefer larger frets, but the skinny ones are okay, too.

Re: neck refret or sell the neck?
Well, I just thought of that as soon as I posted. I guess I don't really know if I'll like the frets until I play them. But with these Mexican Strat necks, is any kind of fretwork recommended to make the playability the best possible?

Re: neck refret or sell the neck?
since it was already once on a guitar that was probably playable, i'd say you're probably okay. you never know until you've got strings on it.

True. But what I'm thinking is this: since the Mexi Strat necks are made in the US and finished in Mexico, what extra bit of finishing could be done to bring it up to par with the top of the line US Strat necks?

Re: neck refret or sell the neck?
honestly, no idea. the frets are either well dressed or they aren't. same for the nut. it'll either be a neck you like or it won't be; i don't really know enough about fender wood specs to speculate on what the differences are, really.

if there's any real difference, i'd guess it's just wood grade.

I thought about it. But I went ahead and got rid of it. I couldn't justify having another extra neck lying around waiting for me to do something with it.
BTW, nice avatar.
