I find binding to be essential. The E/E bending becomes better, because of some more width.
However, some classical songs or variations require you to be able to bend those strings off the fretboard to acquire a high note or hit a certain harmonic. Evidently in such cases neckbinding would not be favorable.

Binding is a touch of craftmanship. I'm certain that it was done to make the guitar distinctive and higher end. Whether it plays better or affects the sound, I don't know. The bottom line is a neck well done won't eat you hand up.I am a true ass set to this board.
