    Also, one trick I've learned is to cut slits legnthwise on the dowels before tapping them in. This helps prevent air pockets and will help seat the dowel flush with the bottom of the hole.

    I never thought about cutting slots in the dowels. That's a good idea.

      Funny, i only know of slotted dowels. Never seen a non-slotted one where i live.

        I think he's cutting them from his own material rather than buying non slotted dowels.

        That is always a good tip, and remember, you don't have to make those grooves very deep as it's just letting the air escape so they're not pushed back out.
