  • Floyd Rose or Kahler Steeler?

I have an option on a guitar I am ordering. The manufacturer has Kahler Steelers left over from the 80's and they are suppose to be a great trem.

However, I am wondering if the spacing is different than on a Floyd original.
Any other issues between the two?

If there is a trem that is (possibly) better than a FRO, it is the Steeler. It has the same stud spacing, same long locking screws, etc., and is extremely well made. I sold mine to Budman, so maybe ask him what he thinks of his. The only real difference that I can think of, is that instead of having 3 different height saddles, the baseplate is stepped to create the height difference. The saddles are all the same size. I'm sure you will love the Steeler.

        +1 on what Zeegler said.
I note that Anderson guitars, Robin guitars, and Hill Instruments guitars are proponents of the Kahler Steeler. Here's a quote from the Hill Instruments website: "Kahler came out with a really nice version of the original Floyd Rose. The saddles are all machined out of steel, the base plate is forged out of some super hardened steel, and were radiused so all the saddles were the same height."

If I had the option, I would possibly take the Steeler but keep in mind, they're not making parts for these anymore if I'm not mistaken. That's an important reason not to choose it. Even still, you could just drop an OFR if you ran into any problems!! Congrats on the the Robin

I had no trouble getting parts for my 2710 Killer or 2300 Pro:

Kahler International builds the top Guitar and Bass Tremolos in the world. Made in the USA. Beware of counterfeits, buy a genuine Kahler!

but it looks like Steelers are not supported. Bummer.

Didn't Kahler get sued by Floyd for making the Steeler?

They stopped making the Steeler because of Floyd Rose eithe sueing them or threatening to do so many years ago. Great trem. Jack.

The spacing is a tad narrower on the Steeler vs. an OFR.
