Oiling the fretboard

Well, I did a search but came up empty.

I've always been told to use Lemon oil or Key oil. I usually clean and oil it every 6 months depending on how much abuse it gets. What do you use to oil your fretboard and how often do you clean and oil it?

Yeah, I saw you do that...I tried "lemon oil" and didn't get good results either...then I remembered the sticky thread.

Here's what I've been doing to search the JCF lately, and it has worked really well: use Google, enter your search terms and add "site:www.jcfonline.com", or you can use their advanced search to search the site & narrow it down by date, etc. I've found lately that this is working better than using the search here, and I get results that go farther back in date. Here's the results for "lemon oil":

Thanks for the heads up on the google thing.

2 oils that I haven't seen mentioned are Bore Oil, and Key Oil. I live near a shop that specializes in band instruments and I can get these easy. For some reason I remember someone telling me a few years ago that Key or Bore oil don't have the crap in them that most Lemon oils do, and they're widely used for wooden band instruments.

Opinions?

I've heard good things about bore oil, especially for ebony. I've never tried it, though. Lemon oil is good if you want an all-in-one cleaner / moisturizer. It has naptha in it, which makes it a good cleaner, but some say this makes it less effective than something like bore oil for protecting the wood.

I use Old English Lemon Oil (make sure it has no polish capabilities) and it works great. I use it whenever I start to see the board get dry. The less I play a guitar the quicker it dries from not having the natural oil from your skin. With the Kelly I just bought I took the strings off and used 0000 steel wool with the lemon oil on it to oil the board and clean the frets. Worked it in very lightly though and it worked great
