Another question about pots

How can you tell that a pot is broken?Is there a test method like testing the resistance or somethin' like that?


I wired my guitar's ciurcuit in a few ways but it still lacks of %95 of the gain.I presume that the pot's broken because it's overheated?

A pot is a variable resistor: you should be able to measure it at full rotation and get 0 ohms one way, and whatever the pot is said to be at the other. Remember that pots (and resistors) have a percentage at which they can vary and still be good... it's probably 10-20%, so a 500k could read anywhere from 400 to 600k on a 20% tolerance part.
