The difference in sound of the 18 volt setup isn't huge, but it's worth the extra battery in my opinion. It produces a little more sustain and harmonics to my ears.

I did it to both my guitar and bass. It didn't do much for the guitar but it made a big difference for the bass when doing pop or slap, it's a lot more dynamic now.

I just did it to my Model 2 tonight and I noticed the same as you. Not too noticable but there was more sustain.
