Someone posted very recently about a buzzing on open strings. It was pretty much general consensus that he was the victim of a nut with a false edge. I thought to myself, wow, I've never had that problem with any of my guitars.
Well as luck would have it, my BC Rich STIII that arrived yesterday has this exact problem. On the B and high E, it sounds like a frikkin sitar when you play the strings open. When fretted, the buzz is completely gone.
So, my question is: has anyone corrected this problem?, and if so, what was the solution. At this point I have 2 ideas.
1 - Use my needle files to file the area behind the edge of the nut. Hopefully this will eliminate the false edge and allow the string to seat properly.
2 - Replace the nut entirely. I'm a cheap-ass, so I'd rather not do this.
Any ideas?
