Need fretboard cleaning tips before "ebonizing"

what the hell is winegear.............. on a serious note, you can use hydrochloric acid, to speed up the break down of the steel wool. Ron I talked to my teacher, she said that your fret boards going to turn green in a matter of years........

i have to say that i really don't get the vinegar/steel wool thing. why use that when there are proper wood dyeing methods that are easily available?

I want to ebonize it so that it won`t go off and if it goes cheap...
I`m from Slovenija(Europe) as you can see and it`s hard to get
the stuff here...

I thought that the vinegar/steel wool is better trick, since it "dyes" it forever and it won't go off. You don't need to mask the inlays or binding too so it's easier to do it.

no it doesn't. it changes chemical structure of wood or something and it causes rosewood to go black permanently. other woods color differently. that's why I thought it's better than that leather dye.
