The Hipshot works great but it gives the Floyd a really strange feel. You can feel the "return to zero" point. I liked the way it worked but not the way it felt. I used it mainly to keep my guitar in tune if I broke a string. I never did live and I regretted modding my guitar to install it. Think before you chop your DC400 up.

never used a trem setter but using 4 or 5 trem springs is what i do. if you use 9's or smaller im not sure how good it will work, but for me 10-52 or 11's its great. if a string breaks it does go out of tune, but its much more stable playing.

I've got one of the old WD tremsetters lying around somewhere. I used it a little bit on one of my old guitars many years ago. I think it worked okay, from what I remember. I usually just use 4 or 5 springs anyway for a stiffer feel on the Floyd with 10-46 strings.

The WD is less invasive, but it has that plastic part I did not really care about. It was kinda b1tch to put in and it firmed up the trem feel quite a bit.

The Hipshot requires some drilling of a hole and screw mounting anchor mounts. At least with the WD, it still can float, but no real Brad Gillis flicker tricks.

I am not really crazy about the feel of a Hipshot as well as JG states, but for some it works for thier style.

Re: favorite tremsetters

i do the same as tom jam (just call me big earl) 5 springs 10-46.
i do have to watch how hard i hit the open e. usually and up stroke helps with that.

It's okay. You are forgiven. I've got a drumset in my basement, so sometimes I am a tom jammer!

Ibanez made one too called a Back Stop. I guess that's what Vai uses. And some company called Rockinger in Germany makes something like the Back Stop called a Black Box.
