  • Q-Tuner Pickups

Has anyone tried these pickups yet? I'm kind of tempted to order one and try it out, but at $160us for a single humbucker I'm not entirely sure.

The site says they're made from Neodymium, which is used in high powered magnets... so the magnetic pull on the strings might be too strong, or it could pick up all kinds of background noise.

Still, from the sample on their site, I'm VERY interested in trying one of these out. Too bad they don't have any clips with distortion.

Might be time to switch to passive pups!

Extremely hifi humbucking pickups with a super sweet treble. They are like humbuckers on steroids, with lots of detail and dynamics but no harshness at all.

That's what I was thinking! But I searched around google for reviews, and they're all extremely positive... although, once again 80% of them are for the bass pups and the other 20% dealing with guitar reviews are written by high school dropouts :ROTF:

I'm going to send the company an e-mail and ask them about it.

'ight, so I got an e-mail back.

        Hey Evan,

Thanks for your e-mail. The dimensions of the neodymium GL Q-tuners are standard- your stock pickups are smaller. Q-tuners are pretty much noiseless in the presence of amps. They do, however, hum slightly in front of computers/monitors.

Height adjustment: seek the point at which string pull begins to manifest itself. Next, lower the Q-tuner just enough to make any signs of string pull disappear. This way, you'll get maximum output and no magnetic drag- easy!

I've received numerous requests from visitors of the site to post OD clips, so, I hired the best guitarist I could find to record some rock/metal/shred type demo material. If everything proceeds according to plan, the OD clips will be posted in the second half of April. The OD clips feature the new neodymium GL Super High Z Q-tuner.

Neodymium Q-tuners are passive pickups, here are some user comments: http://blog.myspace.com/22904307 Scroll down to: Q-tuner GL. http://dpsworld.vibestudio.net/viewtopic.php?p=29504 Scroll down to: wierdOne.

We ship world-wide using postal delivery/airmail (P&P US$ 15-). Actually, I already have several customers in Canada. I am not aware of any additional customs fees. Feel free to e-mail me again in case you have any further questions.

        With kind regards, Erno.
I think I may just take the plunge! Been looking to switch to passive for awhile now anyway.
