Volume swells ?

Hey

I was thinking of getting a good volume pedal, to do specifically nice violin like volume swells.

I wanted to know what was the "standard" pedal used all around for this. Or well, the best pedal actually.

Also, if I have a noise suppressor, will it affect the volume effect?

If my guitar has active pickups or passive pickups should I look for something special?

I use a Morely PVO.
Make sure the attack/threshold is not set too high or it will chop it when you roll the volume down.

I was reading on musiciansfriend.com at the reviews for this pedal and almost everyone said that if you wanted to do swells, Morley wasn't the way to go... bummer, is this true?

I just use the volume pedal on my Boss GT-6. However, if I am doing some swells with a bit of WAH effect and the pedal is controlling that, I'll just use the volume knob on my guitar to control the swell...

I don't know much about the Morley volume pedals, but I have a morley wah pedal and it's a P.O.S. It squeeks, etc regardless of trying to lube it up. That and regardless of the volume setting, I hear it pop when I engage the switch to enable/disable the effect itself.

I'd play with one in a store first and see how you like it. Everyone is going to think/feel/play a little different.

aren't there volume swell pedals that swell it automatically based on your strumming attack and how you adjust it? I have that effect in the Vetta and I love it.

I've heard that the Ernie Ball pedal is a good one. I was thinking about picking up a volume pedal soon as the other guitarist in my band uses his all the time and it seems useful.

or you could go the Satriani route and install a high pass filter on your volume knob and not bother with a pedal.

I think Earnie Ball is the standard and they've started to make a smaller one for portablility, I know they are very solid feeling

Yeah I've been looking into Ernie Ball. There are lot's of versions, but there is the 25K and the 250K, stereo, mono, etc.

It says that 25K is special for active electronics... is this applied to EMG's ?

iron maiden just used their volume pots on their guitars
if you have a good pot thats doesn't crackle,thats all you need
more pedals just means more noise

Wait for RS to get the new oil in paper caps for their RS kits. The Hovland caps are sold out and they are trying something different. I bought a kit for a tele and it works extremely well; just like the volume knob on a boom box.

Whats the stroy with that cap mod? Does it make the volume knob work on a more linear level?
I'd still prefer to use a pedal. You can play normally and still get the swells instead of adjusting your hand position.

I too prefer a pedal....EB 6166 to be exact.

Using the guitar's volume knob works too, but is not practical on all guitars unless you have 12 inch fingers.
