You've seen Crosby firebirds that had crappy lacquer applied after being painted and turned a yellowed color thereafter. how might I recreate this without having to wait for it to yellow naturally? ANy suggestions for really crappy clear lacquer brands?

I think that you can achieve that with some "vintage tint" in the lacquer.

You want to use some Behlen nitrocellulose lacquer in a spray bomb. You can get it at Stew Mac or cheaper at Star Supply (I think the web page is at www.liberonsupply.com). Clearcoat the guitar in that stuff then put it out in the sun. Depending on how much lacquer you put on it, it should yellow up nicely in a few days. People do use shaders in lacquer but it always looks fake (to my eye anyway). I like the sun method as it is real and it is controlable. You stop putting it in the sun when it is the shade you like.
