What kind of wiring gives me a single coil tone w/out hum?

I'm trying to recall some literature that came with either a Duncan or Dimarzio humbucker pickup that mentioned some sort of wiring mod with a switch that gave a reasonable "single coil" tone without the actual hum.

I do not recall if it was series, phase or parallel.

I want to split my Full Shred with a push/pull pot to give me a single coil sound but I do not want the traditional hum as well.

Any suggestions please?

Sounds like you're describing a bucker wired in parallel. IMO, it's not really single coil sounding; it is weaker, thinner, and brighter though. Try it & see if you like it. The only place I'd ever use it is neck position.

it is series / parallel. it does hum slightly & is not as single coil sounding as coil tapping. if youve ever played a BCRich with active ellectronics that what 2 of the switches are for. series/parallel for each Pup.

Yes, parallel wiring is what you're describing. I think it's closer to a P-90 single coil than a regular single coil sound. Series is how a normal humbucker is wired. Just flip a switch or use a push/pull to go into parallel mode.

Yup, parallel. Since you're wiring 2 coils this way, you get half the output of only one of the coils being on (and 1/4 of the series humbucker wiring).
