try adjusting the pick ups higher, changing strings shouldn't mess with the overall eq. i always felt that thicker strings beefed up the tone. maybe a dull set of strings.

Yeah, it depends on what brand or type you're using. If they are one of those coated strings, they can sound dull, compared to regular strings. And also, pickup height must be checked.Comment
