  • How do you get a glossy like look out of a gunstock oil finished body

Is it possible to get a glossy type look out of a gunstock finished body? What do you have to do to achieve this? Can it be done on a tung oil finished body?

Tung oil for sure! Ive never worked with gunstock oil, but I can get an almost clear coat-like finish with tung. Apply your coat of tung oil, let dry for about 15 mins, then buff (LINT FREE PAD OR CLOTH, TRUST ME). Let dry for about 12 hours, then repeat as necessary! Once youve got all the coats you want on there, let it dry for another day, then hit it with a buffer again with a little bit of polish, and youll definetly be surprised!

Oh man.. Tung oil is best diluted with another oil to a degree IMO. Just by itself it is somewhat harder to work with.

I just used Minwax and it looks good so far, after to coats. I'm letting it dry and tomorrow will give it probably two more coats to see how it looks.

gun stock oil would probably work a little better.

Birchwood Casey "Tru-Oil", it is gun stock oil that you get at any Walmart 24 hrs. a day. Look in the hunting and fishing section. I have used it with great results, but do not overdo it, or do it too often.
