How to determine if fretboard is too dry?

and I never really oil my fretboard.. is that a big problem? what would it cause?

If your fretboard gets too dry it might crack.

If it looks or feels dry (or too light in color), oil it... it won't hurt. Some people do it every string change, others do it once or twice a year.

Lick the fingerboard really good. Count to 10. If the spit dries up, oil her really good. If it remains on the wood, leave her be.

Don't just dump oil on the fretboard. Clean it off first. Follow the advice in the sticky posts at the top. After it's clean, give it a light coating of oil, wait a few minutes, then wipe it off.

you should definitely give it a little shellacking.

Yeah, the Rudy Sarzo method, rock on! I saw Quiet Riot in 1984 and during "Come on Feel the Noize" Rudy spewed forth about two ounces of saliva throughout the number. [img]graemlins/headbang.gif[/img] I saw Quiet Riot a few years ago and he was still doing it, awesome, and he's arguably the finest rock bassist ever.

I hear that if you lick a rosewood board, you'll trip with the same effects as acid. Maybe I'll lick my boards and see what happens. [img]images/icons/wink.gif[/img]
