Truss Rod Adjustment question

I went to adjust the truss rode on one of my older soloist using the non-allen wrench style (it looks like the silver one on the right http://cgi.ebay.com/Genuine-JACKSON-...QcmdZViewItem). Anyway, I can tighten the bolt without a problem (clockwise). However, when I turn it counter-clockwise, the bolt basically just turns without effecting the neck to a point where I can take the nut off the rod. The neck does have just a little natural relief so that it is playable but I'd like just a little more.

I don't think the truss rod is broken but it appears that when it was installed, it was made to have relief built into the neck versus the truss rod creating the relief.

Is this something wrong with my neck?

what gauge strings are you using and what are you tuning to?

sounds like you're loosened up all the way. if it still needs more relief, you're shit outta luck. the more tension you have on the strings, the more it will pull forward on the neck causeing more releif. so the truss rod can then be tightened to get rid of the bow and flatten the neck out some.

it takes time for the neck to settle into relief. but dont loosen it all the way or it will bow alot & might be a bitch to correct. truss rod adjustments often take time for it to effect the neck.

make sure you tension on the neck, via strings. other wise you won't see a difference.

I have some 9's on there. I made sure to keep the nut on the rod but at a point where it just started to move freely (ie: move with just my fingers). I've heard people say it takes some time for these adjustments to settle in but I've not experienced that before. Can I make some adjustments using the floyd rose springs, meaning, if I loosed the springs then I'll need to tighten up the strings.

sounds like what happened to me, but i didn't have the strings on the guitar, but they have to be tuned to pitch.
