I finally got around to ebonizing the rosewood board of a Stealth neck I've had sitting around for quite a while. Although the fretboard edges might need another going-over, the board itself looks pretty good. I only applied a single coat, using the black stain from Stew-Mac, but there are a few places where there is a little excess stain that feels tacky since it had some time to dry. Is there a safe way to smooth this out by hand?
Something that would possibly reduce the chances of black stain coming off as I play it would be even better.
