+1 for leaving the finish as is.

    Nice score.

      Allparts.com sells an Ebanol nut that can convert locking nut to regular nut just by screwing it on in place. I was in the same situation as you, I bought a locking nut neck and ended up just reselling it rather than buying the nut. I don't know if it works good or nut, but if you're interested;

That is exactly what I have been looking for! Thanks!

I googled tobacco sunburst images, and probaly 99% of the guitars had a rosewood or ebony fret board. Only a couple had the maple fretboard. But I think I like ht elook of it, and with the black neck binding the ebonal nut would match it very well.

I would still like to know how think the top flame maple wood is though, just in case I want to refinish it.

I will leave it as is for now, but might want to make that change in the future.

paper thin, buddy. don't mess with it or you'll sand through it in a hurry.

That's what I thought. I figured it was a vaneer. I don't think I am going to screw with changing the color.

And since that is the case, I think I will go with a dark wood fretboard, and keep the black hardware.

I'd leave the finish as is. Some black hardware and pickups would look totally awesome. Congrats on it and very interested to see how it will turn out once you've got everything purchased and assembled!

This is more of a long term project. Not because I am doing anything drastic, but beacuse I have already bought 3 guitars in the last 3 months (and considering another right now!), and I need to keep the spending down for a while.

I am gonna keep the original finish, add black hardware and pups (don't know which pups yet) and have to find a neck for it.

I will post pics when I am finished with it, of course.

I was gonna say the same thing. The Veneer is too thin, if you refinished it you would ruin it. The body looks really nice as is, save yourself the trouble. Refinishing it would most likely be more work than it's worth and would hurt the future resale value.

Well, I found a neck for it. It is a new one off a King V That had body damage. It is the right width and 24 frets.

I should have it early next week. Now I am gonna have to track down some pups.

                    Any suggestions?

As I was reading through all the posts, I was going to say leave it as is, that's a great looking sunburst. But you've already decided that -lol.

Pups are wide-open man. What kind of music do you play? What kind of sound are you going for? Do you want to mess with batteries? etc, etc.....

Wow what a coincidence, that neck you bought is from me!

Just an FYI, the flame tops are from .5-.8mm thick... about as thick as a piece of construction paper.

Yeah, I am not going to mess with refinishing it. I don't want to screw up the vaneer.

I play mostly rock and metal, so I would need pups to go for that. I am not crazy about active pups, but to be honest, haven't played through any actives in a log time, and am willing to give them another try.
