I have a model 6 and am very unhappy with the pickups, I want to switch to something passive that has a very high output, but still is VERY smooth, I like a lot of prog rock along with most of the stuff to come out of the 80's, thanks!

Re: Smooth and Powerful
I've got a Distortion/Cool Rails/Hot Rails set up in my 650xl. I love this combo, it is extremely verstaile and would hit want you want very well. The output is there. The Hot Rails in the neck offers very smooth leads, the Cool Rails in the middle does equally well with leads, also handling the cleans with ease. And the Distortion will take care of all of your metal riffing needs, best metal riffing pickup ever.

Custom/Lil'59/JB Jr or JB/Lil'59/JB Jr should be good for that sort of thing. The Lil/Jr pickups have a better humbucking tone and a sparkly clean tone when split.
