  • Need pickup install trick

    Guys,

Need some help here. Bought a metal pickup ring to replace a plastic one. The pickup (Duncan) is F-Spaced. When I raise the pickup (via the height screws), the fit is so tight that the cloth tape around the bobbins gets pulled down, exposing the copper table beneath. Any suggestions? Somehow lube the inner sides of the pickup ring? It appears the cloth tape is only 1 layer thick.

Enlarge the pickup ring with a dremel tool or a file.
    Really? well screw Mark Twain.

Yup. I had the same problem with a Duncan Custom in my Strat. It is a pickguard instead of a ring, but same problem. I just used a dremel to enlarge the one end of the hole by 1/16 of an inch, and then cleaned it up with a file.

You could also call Dave and have him make you rings that fit.
          Just one more guitar!
