I think EMG are just covering their asses, but who knows...

But couldn't you just add a bridging wire for position 2 and 4, or would that fuxxor up the pickup selection?

I don't see why this wouldn't work, it would make positions 1 and 5 select one of the pickups, position 3 would select the other one, and positions 2 and 4 would select both. Kind of weird, yes, but it should work.

Why go to all that extra work. buy A 3 way blade.

it just works fine, i have a 5-way blade, position 1 & 2 have the 85 and 4 & 5 have the 81, the 3rd position functions as a nice kill switch. No broken amps so far.
