Mahogany and floyd rose question

Hello!

I noticed that not many guitars with floyd rose have mahogany bodies. Why is that? I've heard that floyd rose takes away much of the mahogany tone and using alder is much cheaper so thats the reason. Is this true? In that case the difference in tone between the SL2 alder and mahogany version should be quite smal...

Well, it isn´t that rare with Floyd-equipped mahogany guitars. Plenty of offerings from, for example, Schecter and ESP LTD have that combo. And I have to say there is a difference between say alder and mahogany, even with a Floyd on there.
