Dumb question...did you check the battery voltage?

I get some hisss from my other guitars but these EMGs are about 40-60% more louder. I think my Fender Vintage Noiseless are 100% quite, nothing at all from those and they single coils. I did replace the battery when I got the guitar, maybe I should try a different one just for shits and grins.
