Duncan/DiMarzio wiring colours? HELP!

I've just got two Invaders to replace the DiMarzios in my RR3. I've never fitted pups before but I'm confident I can manage it.
However, looking at the Duncan wiring diagram it says you don't use the red and white wires. BUT, my DiMarzios have been wired using the red wire. On the DiMarzios it's black and white that aren't used.

Two questions: one, should I just follow the Duncan diagram, as DiMarzios use different colourings?

and two: I never liked the DiMarzios, they sound poor. Could it be because the guy wired them up wrong - i.e. should they have been wired using the red rather than black wire?

Duncans are wired differently than DiMarzios. Black and Green are swappable as the Main and Ground (with the bare silver) for phase purposes. Red and White are the splitters for each coil.

So I should just follow the Duncan diagram exactly, and change anything that's done differently on the DiMarzios? It's just that the tone and volume pots are wired differently too, according to the DUncan diagram...

for series wiring (or full humbucker mode) the B and D coil ends are soldered together making A and C your Hot and Ground.

Good god, I'm completely lost. The Duncan wiring diagram shows a LP type setup - 2 volumes and 2 tones. I am putting the pups in an RR3, only one tone and two volumes.
The thing is, the Duncan diagram shows that you put the black wire on the leftmost pot connector - but the way it's wired now uses the middle pot connector. I know that works, so do I change it or what?
I'll post a pic - this is really confusing me.

Skip the wiring diagram and just use the color codes. just convert from the dimarzios to duncans using the chart.

DiMarzio wire colors -> Duncan wire colors:

red -> black (hot)
black -> white (for split)
green = green (ground)
white -> red (for split)

First take careful note of how your DiMarzios are soldered in. Then solder ín the Duncans the same way, following the color conversion chart.

Okay I put the thing together and just soldered it the same as it already was, apart from the red and black wires.
It works, but not properly. With the gain up full it sounds like the clean channel, and with the MT2 added it sounds like it should with normal gain.

So, the wiring is clearly not right, but I've got no idea how to sort it. Can anyone help me, going on the photos and wiring diagram? If not, I'll take it up to the guy I normally use for this sort of thing. He's got arthritis in his hands now, but if he can just tell me what connections to make I can do it myself.

Are you sure yo should be using a soldering iron then J/K
solder the red and white together, green is still green on the two, and swap th red(dimarzio) to black (SD).
oops too slow.

sounds like you just have a bad connection. Are both pickups not working properly?

That's what I've done. It's not working properly though. Unless I made a poor connection, but I don't think so.
