  • Vintage DiMarzio PAF

I’ve got a mid to late 70’s DiMarzio PAF pup which reads 7.9-8K. It was in the neck position of a Gibson LP. I would like your opinions on how it would sound/perform in the bridge position of my EVH B/Y build.

    Body: Northern Ash
    Neck: Quarter Sawn Maple
    Bridge: Vintage Brass

My other pup option is the bridge pup from the same LP which was a DiMarzio Super Distortion reading 13.1K, obviously a much hotter pup.

    Thanks Vince

EVH actually had a Super Distortion pickup in his BumbleBee at one time.
I'd probably prefer that over the PAF.

Doesn't Dave Murray use Super Distortions too?

EVH messed around with the coils and repotted the Super Distortion in the Bumblebee and he was still never satisfied with the sound of the guitar. Personally I think the super distortion is a cool sounding pickup.

I would just try it out an see. Sometimes you have to forget what the meter tells yan use your ears

My vote would be for the Super Distortion in the bridge but would experiment with putting the PAF in first. I did the same thing years ago, took an old neck hum out of an explorer and put it bridge position even of a strat tho it was a neck hummer...it kicked ass in the 70's strat body I had it in.

btw....the SD and PAF are a perfect match for a dual hummer

            I agree with Shawn.
            I love the older DiMarzios.
            Really? well screw Mark Twain.

              Thanks for the replies.

I've got two mid to late 70's SDs, both reading 13.1K and one PAF of the same vintage. My plan was to stick one SD in my BumbleBee project and the other with the PAF in my Les Paul Classic.

I was just wondering on the PAF in the bridge because VH was alway into low out-put pups.
