The Nelsonite is fine with Tru-oil over the top. I've done about 9 necks from them this way. The Nelsonite is just added insurance your neck won't arrive warped.
By the way, I should add that Jackson/Charvel uses the Birchwood Casey Tru-Oil on their necks. Mike Kotzen told me they wipe a coat on and wipe it right off. I use 2 coats on my heavily figured Birdseye necks just for added insurance.Last edited by Bengal65; 12-27-2007, 04:19 PM.Tone is like Art: Your opinion is valid. another +1 for the gunstock oil. so far i've used tung oil, boiled linseed, danish, and gunstock oils. the only one that i don't think i'd use anymore is tung oil b/c i seem to remember it taking longer than the others to complete.

Tru oil rocks. It is best applied in multip thin coats over the period of a few days. They you can buff it out or knock down the shine with grey scotch brite. I have tried Gel Varnish as well, it worked OK, but didnt feel the same as the Tru Oil.Custom Guitars, Refinish and restorations.
