  • question about pup rings

This may be obvious to some, but I just noticed that the plastic rings that
go around the pups have a slight bevel to them. I didn't bother to notice
this before I took out the original pups. Does the wider side always go on
the bridge end? The contours of my AT make it look like the neck one
would work better with the fat side towards the neck.

This pic from before I started makes it look like they were both tapered
thin to wide moving towards the bridge.

As far as I know, on any of my guitars, yes the fat end goes to the bridge.
Although from memory, I don't think the neck ring is normally bevelled? Maybe you've got two bridge ones which is why you think it looks odd?

On guitars with a recessed Floyd, the beveled rings are pretty pointless, as the strings are pretty much perpendicular to the body. On a top mount, the neck and strings are at an angle, hence the bevel.
