Some preamp tubes, like 12ax7s consist of two triodes. Balanced just means that they are matched, like in a matched set of power tubes. For most positions in your amp, matching the two triodes really doesn't buy you anything. You may want balanced triodes for the phase inverter though"It's hard to be enigmatic if you have to go around explaining yourself all the time" -
