Sticky Feeling !!

yesterday i oiled the fretboard of my Jackson DKMG ,
since it started a minor cracking and the wood was looking pretty dry
i applied some coats of Double Boiled Linseed Oil to it ,
the wood absorbed / socked the first coat instantly :O and i applied 2 3 coats to it and take away the access oil ,

now after 24 hours its almost dry ,
the fret board is looking pretty good , and it has been darken to its original rosewood color


but there is some sticky feeling to it ,
how do i remove the sticky-ness ??

can i buff out the fretboard ?? i have a buff machine!! ??

or use Steel wool ???

YOU NEED TO WIPE BOILED LINSEED OIL OFF AFTER 5 MINS OR IT WILL GET STICKY!

now that it's all gunked up. go get yourself some Premium Zippo Lighterfluid and clean the gunk off with that.

reapply the BLO, let sit for 5 mins, and then wipe clean and buff.

I think you applied way too much.

easiest way to remove oil gunk is to take some 0000 grade steel wool with more of said oil, treat the board, and wipe it off immediately. then buff it out. if you've got a buffer, fuck yeah, they're great for that.

I guess I'm lucky, my hands don't sweat enough to notice a problem on finished necks.

Some well meaning prior owner stripped and oiled the Model 88 neck. I haven't messed with it in 15 years, and it feels fine. I clean it with a dry cloth.

The finished necks on my other guitars aren't especially sticky, either. I like the feel of the gloss finish on the DKMGT.
I have used linseed oil on gun stocks, and yes, wipe it off soon after application.

why waste the time and effort with the boiled linseed oil?

just get some bore oil and put it on, wipe off the xs and that's it. no worrying about times or taking it off, etc.

Sorry I use lemon oil put it on rub it in and wipe it off presto!
