You'll note in my 'instructions' thread, I mention having to file the slot for each string a little in the Tusq nut to bring the string height down to where you want it. The top of the nut does nothing, what matters is the bottom of the slot. Tune the guitar (with all six strings up to pitch), then check how high the action is above the 1st fret. Do one string at a time, detune only that string, slide the string out of the slot, only do a few light strokes with the nut file on the slot, then put the string back in the slot, tune it to pitch, and check how high the string is off the 1st fret. If still too high, de-tune, slide string from slot, do a few more file strokes, retune and check. Do that a bunch of times and you'll eventually end up where you feel you have good action without being too low that it buzzes out on the fret, and the strings will be matched to the radius of the neck.

Also, angle the nut file back slightly towards the headstock as you want the front edge of the nut slot to be the string contact point for proper intonation and sound.

Here's some pics. The last one shows my pickup ring, which is very tight to the Duncans it came with.
