I have a charvel model mutt, and I'm wondering if I put sperzels or some other locking tuner, will I not need to have the locking nut?

locking tuners?

Some people use Floyds without locking nuts, and Carvin uses that layout as standard unless you request the locknut, but imo nothing beats a locknut (followed by the behind-the-nut lock like the Model Series used) for tuning stability. Even with locking tuners, there is a lot of possibility for the strings to bind in the nut, and with J/C pointy necks the string path is not straight through the nut, which adds to the possibility for binding. I'd leave the lock on there if you want trouble-free stability.
