I recently put a set of Tom Anderson pickups in my Jackson. I also put in all new pots and mini switches using good quality parts. The guitar now sounds phenominal through my Cornford setup, but I am getting a lot of hum. Pickups are humbuckers, and can be coil tapped. I expect the noise when switched to single coil, but this is too much for a humbucker. My other guitars are virtually silent through the same amp setup. I am wondering if I have missed something in the wiring, or if I need cavity shielding? I have a Tom Anderson guitar with similar pickups. There is no shielding in the cavity of that guitar, and there is no hum either.

did you install capacitor(s) on the tone pot(s)?
i've found that not having a tone pot or a cap will make a guitar very noisy.
also did you make sure each pot is grounded? i had a guitar that i rewired that was very noisy. i had the volume pot grounded but i forgot all about grounding the tone pot to the volume. once i did that, its virtually silent.
but, some pickups are just noisey and there isn't much you can do about it.

You learn something new every day here.
Thanks for the info.
Now I have a couple of weekend projects.
Never even thought about grounding those damn mini-switches before dg

I added some additional grounding as suggested above, and it worked a treat. Thanks for the help Guys.
