Binding fix

The binding at the point of one of my Jackson is chipped. What can I use for a temporary fix to fill in the void until I can order some binding?

Hit Sully with a PM. He's got some cool binding repair tricks he's posted here over the years (ie. making binding repair slurry), but of course I can't find the old threads, and his old site where he had tips & pics is gone.

from what i've noticed over the past few months, it's very difficult to get ivoroid binding, which is what is on the jackson neck. not sure if it's because it's made of celluloid (which is highly flammable), but all i've seen at stewmac and other places is plastic binding, and that's not going to do you any good.

if you can get your hands on some MEK (methyl ethyl ketone), shoot me your address. I'll send you a strip of binding that you can cut up and make some sludge with.

if it's a small area, you can cut up an inch of binding (or so) into chips and mix it with a little bit of MEK (you can get this at home depot, lowe's, etc). it will break down into a sludge, and with a toothpick, you can drop it into the chip. it'll melt into the binding that's already there. build it up a little, let it harden over night, and sand it flat. that's also a great way to rebuild binding over frets, or fill in the gaps that can be created between the fret edge and the binding nib.

as long as you have a match with the binding, it'll be damn near invisible.

Acetone works great too if you cant get the MEK.

I have plenty of M.E.K. Being in the aviation field if you don't have a bottle of MEK on your tool box you're not a real mechanic or just a noob
