This seems to be similar to the bridge on the PCS Rhoads, but an older Gibson "harmonica" tuneomatic may also work. Those things were huge (they were called "harmonica" for a reason )

So you want him to put a 6 string bridge on a 7 string guitar

I'd say check the nut. If the bearing point for that string isn't at the edge of the nut it will intonate flat. Midway down the below link shows some ways to test this (http://www.frets.com/FRETSPages/Musician/GenSetup/Nuts/nuts3.html). The other suggestion is try a heavier string.

One trick that can get a bit more play is to slightly lower the magnet of the pickup by the affected string, particularly on the neck pickup. It changes the magnetic pull on the string, and can sometimes give you a bit more play in the intonation. And yes I have tried this and had it work, so I'm not going nuts

The pickup thing is a good idea. Lower the pickups and check the intonation again - could be they're pulling the strings so much that it's messing with the notes you're intonating with.

I have yet to try the pickup thing, but speaking of that, can anyone explain to me the concept behind that whole pickup height/voltometer testing thing?
