I have the duncan tb4's tried the pups up and down . The regular stock height seems best at high volume.

Too close to the strings and you will loose clarity and sustain.If you like muddy tone then go with it.

Like straycat said, if you get too close to the strings for the pickup you are using and it's a nasty muddy mess. No string clarity.

But...but... my idea of good tone is two fat people mudwrestling in a well

Don't worry about adjusting those if you are just starting out with this.

Gotta agree with this... if you have ever played a strat with staggered poles, you know they don't work well with effects pedals....if you like the high pup position...leave the screws flat (or as they were), they don't do much up close anyway....and like the others have said, angle the pickup to change the sound.
