They are extremely similar to the EMG-85 when in full humbucking mode. But they obviously have the advantage of switching to the EMG-SA in single coil mode. So they are extremely versatile. In my band we do a lot of clean stuff, the humbuckers just don't cut it there for me, I gotta have the single coil tones for that. And by the way, those are EMG-89R models, the "R" meaning "reverse." In a normal EMG-89, when you go to single coil mode, the coil by the logo activates, so if it's the bridge hum you get a really bright tone. I preferred to have the "R" model so the active coil was closer to the neck. And for the neck pickup, obviously with the "R" model you get a very convincing "Strat" neck tone there. Great for those honed clean sounds."Got a crazy feeling I don't understand,
Gotta get away from here.
Feelin' like I shoulda kept my feet on the ground
Waitin' for the sun to appear..."
