I am about to order a new CS Charvel and I am leaning towards a Flame top in trans Black. I was originally going for a Mahogany body/maple top but I am concerned about the weight. I have read about Basswood sounding good with a Maple top. Does anyone here own such a beast?

Now some of the 750Xls were made with basswood body and maple cap. Compared with the "normal" charvel 750xl the tone is not as good.
It all depends on what sound you want...! Would you miss the distinctive deep/wide/dark tone of mahog with maple?

And how did the tone sound before you found out it was basswood?
There's good basswood and there's bad basswood. Most of the Charvel Model models from the 80s that everyone raves about having such wonderful tone were made of good basswood.
Most of the cheesy low-rate imports that everyone complains about having no tone were made with bad basswood.I want to depart this world the same way I arrived; screaming and covered in someone else's blood
