How many springs for what guage of strings

My only complaint with 4 or 5 strings is it makes it very hard to get flutter effects otu of it at full tension. On the flip side, I used 2 for about a year in one of my guitars, and finally got sick of every little thing upsetting the Floyd. I think part of it can be affected by the condition of the springs and how tight they are

Are you using it in dive only???

mostly do dives, but do occasionally a drop and lift. its kinda like charvel rocker said. i hate when the trem is so touchy. also when bending strings with only 2 springs the trem tends to counteract. its all preference really.
