um, you mean distortion, is the custom as high output as the distortion?
No he meant the Custom. He was just hammering home how much he loves Sully's choice of the Duncan Custom.
The Custom is not as high output as the Distortion, but I wouldn't read too much into that. Amp, pedals, player all count for a lot when it comes to how hot a guitar sounds.
the custom is between a jb and a distortion as far as output goes. it's also much clearer, and more....open, if that makes any sense. you'll be able to get heavy as hell while retaining clarity. harmonics are also good as well.

+1. Listen to the Sull-meister. He knows his s**t.
Distortions are more "shrill", IMHO. A great pickup, to be sure, especially if you're looking for balls. But it has a more "compressed" range. And it's not especially good for clean tones.
The Custom is a very versatile pickup. It can do both ballsy and clean. Openly-voiced, and lots of harmonics.
I love the Custom, but I've got a Custom 5 laying around that I've given up on after trying it in a few different guitars. Compared to the Custom, it sounds like somebody threw a wet blanket over the cabinet. I'm gonna get an A8 magnet and slap it in there to see what all the hubub is about.

The Custom 5 can be a little scooped in the mids, depending what guitar it is in. It usually works better in mahogany guitars like Les Pauls, Hamers, etc. I didn't care for it in my old alder Charvel Star, but love it in my Hamer Special.
