how the &^%$&%# do I adjust the truss rod without taking the locknut ( and strings ! ) off?

I've got the StewMac 1/4 spinner, and it doesn't fit
I've got a 1/4 thin spanner, open ended and ring, and can't make that work either

there's got to be an easy way to do this, what am I missing?

you need a 7mm for your Model 4. If you can get a hold of a short 7mm socket and a nut driver or extension for a 1/4 inch ratchet, that will also work but the best thing is the actual wrench that came with these guitars when they were new.

aha - so that's why a 1/4" won't work !
