[/ QUOTE ]Well Ron, it's just the colorful metaphor I use to coverthe concept of sloth or enforced slow motion in general. You know, like the common conception of postal carriers, that they get their route done in 2-3 hours, then go play around for a few hours before reporting back to the PO.God help the newbie that finishes and goes back to the PO early, for he is making the veterans look bad.Since I know that a significant percentage of musicians and techs do love the green bud, it seems a reasonable term to use - but you can think beers, margaritas, meth or heroin if you prefer, it all comes to the same end. I just think that since I doubt they are inundated with THAT large a number of CS orders, I think they are probably not putting out as fast as they could. I could be wrong, but since JCMI and FMIC seem to have better security than the CIA, who really knows? You can't get the info from them, that's apparent. There is no reason they could not have a data entry person enter workorderdata into a database, and have the builders spend a few minutes a day checking off on a worksheet what was done on that guitar that day. This would allow a phone CSR to answer any questions on a weekly time basis without interrupting production. That would eliminate not being able to get info for months at a time on your custom or Select order. It's a matter of rudimentary bookkeeping that any business should practice. An observant CSR will learn soon enough how long the various phases take, and I'll add they'll know the REAL time. Craftsmen always tend to underestimate the time it takes them to do a taskbecause in their minds they're "that damn good"! After a learning period the CSR could tell you "It was sprayed today, will take X time to dry, then the next step will take x time. Ultimately a good CSR who pays attention can learn to predict timeframes probably better than the builders themselves. Again, that's because builders often overestimate their speed. They calculate tool time, but not setup time nor material transit time, and if they spend an hour a day waiting for materials top show up, well that alone will make the production 1/8 slower than predicted, if that were the only unforseen factor.I think a couple of good CSRs tasked with staying on top of the situation, and getting the builders to spend 15 minutes a day filling out checksheets attached to workorders, could really tighten up the availability of info to customers. I've always found that customers are much more patient if you communicate with them, even if you are way behind on the timeframe they wanted for their service. Feeling ignored is always what sets them off.Granted plumbing is very different, but when someone has schit all over their floor and you have to get them to wait 6 hours for your guy to get there, you learn that communication is THE key to keeping them happy, or as happy as a schit-floored customer can be. What I think is sad is that I'm reading how several of you think ordering a guitar and waiting a YEAR is perfectly acceptable. Yer out of your minds, there kids.

[/ QUOTE ]

Hey now, I resemble that remark.

I placed an order back in July for a CS and was told then around 6-9 months. It took months to get the proper paperwork in place and two dealers. There is definitely a problem in getting things done in a timely manner. I should have been slapped then and snapped out of it and never ordered. I was at the point that I wanted the guitar badly. GMW would not make it for me, no 24 fret bolt-ons.

I have no idea what the status of my guitar is. The dealer told me something a month or so ago that made me want to strangle someone. He didn't believe that the order was ever finalized at Jackson and nothing had been done for a few months. I have no idea what is truth of fiction and when I may see the guitar. I figure I go till January and then start bugging the hell out of the dealer. To the dealer: if your reading this prepare yourself now.

Tekky, It sucks you had to cancel your order. I didn't know you could do that. I figured once it's placed your pretty much on the hook. Is this a dealer call?

I hope you get what your looking for one day.

[/ QUOTE ]Actually there's an incompatibility between this board and my WebTv unti that has the effect of removing the separations between my sentences and paragraphs. Prettyirritating, and it doesn't always happen which makes it more frustrating.I also make a lot more typos, due to having had the stroke, and both editing and using spellcheck seem to trigger the crunching the post together, so I tend to leave the typos rather than watch everything become a run-on sentence. Sometimes that happens anyway though, so...

Re: Matt\'s Music Center cheers, JCMI jeers

Thanks for being so kind Todd, your patience and good will are appreciated. I know you were excited about getting your guitar and I was hoping to deliver it to you without any problems so that it would reflect positively on me. I know that some of the guys at J/C were pulling for you too, but for reasons outside my control, it just didn't happen.

I as a dealer would certainly benefit from faster turnaround times by the manufacturers I deal with. When a customer and I put in the effort to make a deal and it ends up getting cancelled because of non delivery... it's not good for anyone. But it's not just J/C that has this problem though, it's all over the music industry. Companies like Boogie, Tama, PRS, Zon, Modulus and alot of the other "high end" manufacturers I deal with can take a long time to deliver gear to me at times too. Why? Because they're small companies making high quality stuff.

Example: Right now I've been waiting five months for a batch of high end guitars to show up from another unnamed company and these aren't even hand made. The funniest part of the story is the sales guys can't tell me when the guitars are going to arrive. They communicate with the factory in Japan through email and the email responses they get back are written in such broken English they can't figure out exactly what's being said!

The long waits are one of the prices we all pay for being part of a relatively miniscule industry compared to others that are far larger than ours. Problems like the one that Todd just experienced aren't isolated to J/C alone though... High quality, small factories and high demand must be difficult things to balance. Hopefully problems like this can be corrected in the future though because customers are demanding better service and faster turnaround times. And, forums like this allow both positive and negative experiences to be broadcast worldwide in a matter of seconds.

Well, I'm considering a couple of options.
1) Buy a used older San Dimas.
2) Import parts-mutt with a custom paint job.

How about a nice reissue Bullseye with a strathead? It was a special order but the customer hasn't returned a couple of my phone calls over the last 2 weeks. I'll give him another week or so and then this one may become available for purchase along with the Lighting Bolt Star I have here.
