  • Is this normal at the JCF?

A little while back I put a WTB ad (still there) in the classifieds for a neck and got a positive response from a member who I'll just call GP.
He PM'ed me twice with the price and condition, and said pictures are on the way.
I replied to him three times after that, stating I'm interested and would really like to see the pics, but no responses from him at all after his first two replies.
He is still posting regularly on the forum since then, so he's still around, and must have noticed the numerous PM's I sent.

Is this common around the classifieds for someone to play these games?

I like to do business straightforward and upfront, so I don't understand why anyone would play these "games", if that in fact is what's happening.
I can relate to someone changing thair mind or whatever, but at least have the courtesy to let the other person know about it.

    Just a little frustrated......

Did this seller state he was open to international shipping? I would never ignore a PM here on the message boards, but I have been known to ignore messages on Ebay from non USA buyers because I won't ship there.

This is only one reason I can think of.... probably more....

Well, under my JCF name at the left, it shows very clearly where I'm from, and he did reply to my WTB ad twice.

If he didn't notice, I'd be surprised, but it is possible. Regardless, he could have sent another PM saying that he doesn't want to ship to Canada, if that in fact was the case.
Shipping to Canada is very similar to shipping in the U.S. I don't get why some people have such a problem with it.
I'm sure there are far more bad deals go down between U.S. - U.S. sellers and buyers, simply due to the difference in the population between the two countries.
Shipping to Canada isn't like shipping overseas or most international shipping. It's pretty straightforward, and Paypal does offer protection for cross-border purchases as far as I know.
But as the seller you have the right to do whatever you want, I certainly can't change that, nor would I want to, but it's not like you're shipping something to Nigeria.

Don't forget, he responded to my ad, not the other way around.

Common courtesy and better communication would be nice......I don't like to be left hanging and guessing about what the hell is going on.
        That's too much like Craigslist!

I had a similar experience a few years ago. It happens, move on.

Yeah I'll "move on" as you say, but it's not what I expected from JCF members.

              Unfrigginbelievable!!!

I just got an email from the guy not 5 minutes ago, with pictures and all!

Looks like it'll happen after all. Sure wish the communication was better though, but it looks like my lack of patience got the better of me.
              My apologies to GP.

You know, it's amazing. I once flew from northern Alberta to the US. The flight over Alberta took eons. The plane felt as though we were going maybe 250 mph tops, but man, soon as we hit the US border, the plane bolted and we weremoving at light speed. Got to Chicago in minutes flat.

I think your story is a sign that the poster forgot all about it. Sometimes it's hard to keep track if you have a busy life, work, kids. I'm always apologizing to friends these days because of some perceived offense, but they don't understand that with an infant, I'm mostly out to lunch (in the head).

Well, to be fair, Chicago's what, 100 miles from the Canadian border (straight line), and Alberta's 3000 miles of barren tundra and the city of Ontario?

Actually it's probably the thin, colder air that far North vs the warmer air further South - better for the engines.

I wouldn't have thought the change from the colder northern air to the warmer southern air would be so noticeable right on the border. Maybe that's how they determined just where the border would be.... "fuck me, the temperature just dropped 10 degrees. Alright, you Canucks can have from here north"

I thought colder air was better for engines. Denser with oxygen. Hence performance cars having bonnet scoops & air intakes. And why drag cars run faster during night sessions than they did earlier in the day.

That thing's only seen the street a few times. Fun times!!

The cops wouldn't have to chase me at all, it would run out of fuel in less than 2miles if I stand on it.
It runs on alcohol, so I can't even pull into the local gas station to fill up!
Although I can run into the hardware store and buy 11 gallons of methyl hydrate (methanol)!

It really isn't that loud.:ROTF: 115db @ 40 feet while idling at 1900 RPM. I measured with a db meter, just in case it ever became an issue.

This was my old hobby. Now I'm back into guitars, which is so far a lot cheaper. It's based on a 1937 Fiat, hence the name......
