Before you have a heart attack, worst case scenario is you would have to replace the nut.
$30 tops for a real OFR nut.
As for the story... I've seen strange things happen to guitars that sit in cases for years.
    This wouldn't surprise me.

Take a sting clamp from another guitar and test to see if it stays in tune. If it works replace the bad part. I would start with the nut.

      Just one more guitar!

Good idea. That is what I would do.

Maybe the guy who sold it wasn't a big whammy user and didn't notice the G string coming out of tune.

I have a slew of guitars with floyds, but only screw on the bar once in a blue moon. I've blocked a few as well.

I know I'm not imagining. I will replace the nut, My concern is the screw holes ON THE GUITAR where the nut mounts....is it bad???? Who knows.

Check another web post about same issue but with what seem like lame remedys>>>

If the hole is a little stretched out, just ad a tiny bit of glue, maybe even a tiny piece of toothpick. The screw will bite better and hold no problem.

Lame remedys? Stretching your strings is a lame remedy? I find that alot of tuning issues come from improperly stretched strings...

I'm trying to understand what the problem is. So it's not the pad? The nut is moving? If the nut is moving, it would cause tuning issues on all the strings, not just the G string. But if it is the nut that's moving, I agree with what Toejam said, a little bit of a toothpick will help the screw bite down on it...

No tuning problems on all strings. Just the G-String! (I cant imagine what someone is gonna write after that). The lame thing i was refering to was the OIL HERE ANE OIL THERE??? I have never oiled any floyd in 20 years?????

I havent read this entire thread, so i may be in the dark a little, but I have to say, I oil floyds all the time.
Even if they turn a little stiff, I loosen all theeads and hit them with 3 in 1 oil.
A trem is tool/machine and has working parts. They all need a little lube now and then.
I do the same for lockig nuts threads, oil them up and they clamp down much better.

+1, I oil my Floyds when they need it. Not too often but every once and a while...

Sounds like you may be over-reacting. If a slightly grooved locknut plate is the the only issue with the guitar you received, you should fix it yourself and let it go. Yeah it's a pain, but it really is a minor issue.

I guess I just don't see how a $20 part on a guitar might turn an otherwise good deal into "a bad deal with a JCF member." If you think he knew and was trying to pull a fast one, or if you think he had no idea, if it bothers you fix it and move on. Tweaking a newly purchased old guitar is all part of the bonding process, the way I see it, all a part of making it my own.

                          Just my cent's worth.

Yeah, the guitar is fine. Apparently when LEE put it together, he must have been in a hurry. All I did was screw the nut screws deeper into the wood and it stays in tune fine. No adding wood, glue, are anything to destroy a GREAT GUITAR! No new nut either!

                              Thanks for the feedback.
