His riffs made the songs that are STILL getting airplay almost 30 years later. Their new stuff is making it to the airwaves too. Gotta give him Kudo's for that. Very few have done that.

His live tone is probably the best - bar none. Eddie's tone on the reunion tour couldn't make a pimple on Mick's ass - Micks tone is like a soccer kick to the nuts.
heh funny... from my personal experiences I thought Ed was the only one who had a bigger and more massive tone than Mick in recent years

I started this thread hoping to see these replies. Fuck yeah his tone is crushing, I have seen them on every tour since Shout (The Motley/Ozzy tour, got to see Jake E. also!) Nikki comes up with the basic idea but I'm sure Mick sprinkles his ingredients in there. He's low key but really delivers, especially live. On the Carnival tour I ws skeptical what he would play like due to his condition, but he played as good or better than any other tour I had seen. The only person I have heard bash him and the Crue many times is Hetfield. I'm sure Hammit doesn't. Funny, Bob Rock did Feelgood which went #1, and who did Hetfield seek for the black album?? B Rock

I agree that his solos are nothing technically 'out there' but he is one of THE tastiest players ever in metal. When you find yourself singing/humming a solo you know it was right for the song, and good. Most of my favorite players, including Mick, are able to do that.

On top of that, he's a trooper battling through his disease and still rocking. Long live Mick!

Mick and Ed are the guys who made me want a SOLDANO SLO for over fifteen years until I could finally afford one. The Soldano is still a major staple and one of the main ingredients in Mick's live tone. Now that I own one, I can see why. And I agree, when I watch him live, I get chills. Here's a guy who just struggles to physically get up there, and then he plays his heart out EVERY time. Compare that to some of these guys who are in good health and SOOO gifted, who drown themselves in booze or drugs and rip people off on the live performance and play like a 2 year old.

Motley and Metallica have a feud going on since day one. It started thanks to Lars (who would have guessed ). He was jealous because Crue got all the attention and girls in LA, so after some gig when The Crue came outside and were surrounded by tons of people, Lars started shouting "Motley Crue sucks", and Nikki heard that and started chasing him, but Lars ran away like a little bitch because he was afraid to get his teeth knocked in.
So after that both sides have made a lot of cheap shots at each other in public.
One of the biggest feuds were after the whole Napster thing. Nikki said that Metallica sould out to their record company and are corporations' bitches. Then James said that the Motley guys look like hookers yadda yadda yadda.

But that being said.. musically I think they have more respect for each other. Metallica chose Bob Rock because Bob created such a huge sound for The Crue.. specially the drum sound. And when Metallica made Black album Tommy Lee went to listen to their recordings in the studio with Bob and was very excited hearing that stuff.

Mick Mars? He's shit, absolute shit.

Nah, only kidding, it's just so rare to get a thread on here where everyone seems to agree about a player, I thought I'd be the first to dissent! Obviously, I agree with what's been said before, great player, great tone, I'm amazed he's carried on with his health problems. I mean, can you imagine being ill and working with tits like Vince and Tommy? He must have the patience of a saint!
So I woke up,rolled over and who was lying next to me? Only Bonnie Langford!

It's just my opinion, but when i saw the VH reunion tour in Nov '07, Ed's tone sounded more like a buzz-saw - no comparison to the VH1 - Fair Warning era. Now the early VH tone would be right up there with Mick's, but Mick has had this wonderfully consistent tone since the first time I saw them which was the Theater of Pain tour. His own description of himself is quite accurate - loud, rude and agressive.

Mick ROCKS! He is consistent in his tone for sure.
In the book, The Dirt, he comes off as a very good guy while the younger crue members did most of the craziness that surrounded them. I have never met the man, but have loved his sound since first seeing them in '88 at the Dr. Feelgood show in NC.
As stated, he will get his main stream acceptance after he dies! F**kers never care about the guy right now will be raving about his playing and abilities!

Mick's not a flashy technician shredder-type. He's a greasy, blues-based metal groove player. IMHO, a strong song-writer is someone who writes stuff with incredible hooks and melody in them, so that their song sticks in your mind all day after hearing it on the radio once. Mick's one of those guys. Mucho props to him.

Dude's a total package. When it comes to six strings, nothing fits Motley like MM. Love the nasty crunch and dirt in his tone, especially on very early stuff
