  • Anyone own a Nissan Pathfinder?

I just got one and there is a button labeled VDC (vehicle Dynamic Control) and I really don't know what the purpose of this is. The owner's manual is a bit vague... or I'm just stupid, lol.....

It's not specific to the Pathfinder. It varies from manufacturer to manufacturer, but it's a set of computer controls which predict when you are doing something dumb with the steering/brake/throttle inputs, and "fixes" it for you.

For example you're going around a corner a little fast and decide to lift off the throttle just after you turn the wheel... The car's ass-end wants to come around, but the VDC will make the throttle lift "smoother" and possible engage one or more brakes at one or more corners of the car, to keep it pointed where it "thinks" you want to go.

Wow. Why would I want to turn that off then?

About the only time I can think of is if you want to "have fun" in the snow.

Otherwise it's a good idea to leave it on.

I am indeed looking forward to having a little fun in the snow. We get lots of snow here in the winter.

What model Pathfinder do you have? I've got the LE and love it.

I have the SE. Do you have the LE with the 8 cylinder? Obviously mine only has a 6, but it is quite impressive. (But then again, I was driving a 4 cylinder Hyundai...).

Managed a Nissan service department for two and a half years. The VDC basically works with the ABS system to prevent under steer and over steer on wet and slick roads. Basically a glorified name for a traction control system.

I have that on my honda insight. works great in the rain( not that the car has a lot of power).
I had regular traction control on my last saturn, that sucked ass. If I was on wet snow the car would just sit there and not turn either wheel from.
