I live in Lahti where Niemi played before leaving for the smaller rinks and bigger paychecks. I confess I wouldn't have thought I'd see him in the Cup Finals in a few years! I mean he was good - stellar at times - and Lahti Pelicans supporters probably were sad to see him leave, but... come on!

Spiv, I think you speak English pretty well too
In German I think it would also be spelled just Niemi or maybe Nijemi"There is nothing more fearful than imagination without taste" - Johann Wolfgang von Goethe
"To be stupid, selfish and have good health are three requirements for happiness, though if stupidity is lacking, all is lost" - Gustave Flaubert

Well not really.
I think it's more a case of emphasis, the way I've heard Niemi pronounced is at least recognizable. Which is necessarily not the case with Selänne.
edit: There's actually a nice pronounciation key in wikipedia. Go piece it together!Last edited by ZZB; 06-03-2010, 11:52 AM.

I know a couple of Pelicans fans, I have close relatives in Hyvinkää so I'm in that area often. We sometimes go to the lakes through Lahti from Hyvinkää.Last edited by Endrik; 06-03-2010, 11:56 AM."There is nothing more fearful than imagination without taste" - Johann Wolfgang von Goethe

Literal translation of Thomas in Finnish is "runkkari""There is nothing more fearful than imagination without taste" - Johann Wolfgang von Goethe

Going by the wiki guide, e = let and i = lit, and Finnish dipthongs are just like two single vowels strung together, so it's ontih nihehmih? Or is i more like meet?
