  • no split no bueno for the Flyers, they were swarming in the 3rd period.
Yes Spiv, the brandishing of the Hawks logo on top of the board has swayed me to root for
    the Flyers, it's not fair-lol
All the Hawks have to do is split now and they're in the drivers seat to end their drought.
There's actually no line up this a.m.
Not helping the situation since 1965!

    • Niemi was outstanding again last night. Leighton wasn't. The first goal he should of had that frozen and the second goal got beat like a blind man playing a goltender...you can't give up soft goals to a much better Chicago team.

Game 3 will tell us if there is any hope for the Flyers or not...they lose game 3 then its a sweep for Chicago and they win their first cup since 61...

I agree, at the very least the Flyers defense should have had that puck out of there. Hawks got 3-4 wacks at it. The second goal, Leighton claims he was screened by the Flyers defensemen and never saw Eager take the shot.

Game 3 is a must win but I'm not worried. If the Flyers play the way they did in the 3rd period, and keep their third defensive pair on the bench, they should win it easily.

I'm still not sure who I'd rather have in, Carcillo or JVR.

edit: Thought of another officiating gaff: Richards gets checked into the Chicago bench AND gets 2 minutes for elbowing.

Looking at nhl.com's boxscore I see Pronger and Eager got misconducts at the end of the game? What's that about?

        Nevermind, I found it: http://www.delcotimes.com/articles/2...e634758777.txt

“So?” Pronger said. “So what? I don’t know if he was asking for the puck. I couldn’t understand him. I don’t speak gibberish.”

they really need to reduce the size of the netminders pads...look at that picture of Espo...even in late 80's early 90's the pads were much smaller than you see today. Take the size of the pads along with the increase in the size of the goaltender, there is not much to shoot at

                • I agree with you guys 100% on this one.

Even if you take a 'modern era' example and use Patrick Roy when he came into the NHL and look at the way that the gear swelled-up to crazy proportions to the point that they 'down-sized' everything. Well, they 'limited' the size of equipment but they didn't go nearly far enough. All of the goalies still have way too much gear on. Sure, wear the stuff and don't limit the thickness but the width and sheer area of the stuff should be taken back to 1990 standards (or similar).

The strange thing is that the NHL was worrying about ways to increase scoring for a few years and even thinking about increasing the size of the nets. Do they not have any old hockey cards, photos, videos, perhaps THE INTERNET?!?! It's just one more thing that shows that Gary Bettman is NOT a hockey guy. He's a number crunching market guy. His recent statements regarding the NHL (state of the league address) are ridiculous.

                  • all you gotta really do these days with these butterfly goalies and thick pads is go roof on 'em more often
than not and you can solve them.

                      • Niemi, how is he our MVP so far? It is crazy to think that he has gotten this good all in the playoffs.

Sidenote have you all seen the Broad Street Bullies documentary on HBO and HBO on-demand? Awesome!

Didn't anyone think that not wearing a mask was idiotic? Or were shots just that much weaker back then?

                          • The shots weren't weaker, but the slapshot was not really used and there was a lot of respect between the players so there were fewer 'wasters' fired at goalies. Also no butterly goalies were around either so often going low was your best chance.

They didnt have curved sticks (easier to elevate hte puck) back then and not as much heat on the shot. I think it was Bobby Hull who came up with the curved blade and the slap shot.
