  • Xbox or PS3 ???

    Hello everyone,

Christmas is coming... I'm not a gamer and I know nothing about those games consoles.

We have a Wii at home, the kids love it. My 3 sons are into a World War II frenzy... They've been reading tons of books, searching the www, watching old documentaries... A few months back, they made me bought a game on the Wii, Blazing Angels, it's a WWII flight combat simulator. They are really into it, even after completing it, they are still going over all the missions.

Now they want the sequel of that game, which is not available on the Wii, and also they saw that there is a new game out, IL-2 Birds of Prey, again not available on the Wii...

So they are all begging for either xBox or Playstation 3... So, as I said earlier, I'm not a gamer, so I have NO idea which of these 2 units I should get? Can someone help???

The bigger bang for your buck will be the 360. Bigger and better game library, the online community, it's less expensive then the PS3 and overall just the superior console. If moneys not a problem and you want a Blu Ray player, then I'd say the PS3.. If you want the better video game console, Xbox.

PS3 is also more reliable. XBoxs have all kinds of reliability issues.

PS3 has really come from behind and surpassed the 360 in terms of games, online and features. Its a do it all box.

Although I only do the 360, I'll say go for the PS3. I'm getting tired of Microsloth's abuses of paying customers - they consider adding Facebook and Twitter functionality to a gaming console a "feature" and decided it was worth a total system patch, instead of making it an OPTIONAL marketplace-buyable add-on for the 5 shitheads that actually wanted it. This type of ignorance has ruined many a game for me over the years, and MS is seriously fucking pushing their luck with me over this kinda shit.

              Buy Sony, fuck Xbox.

The PS3 is like a Ferrari....its a finely tuned machine that performs to perfection. The only problem is that out of all your online playing friends, you are the only one that has one.

The 360 is like a Camaro, it breaks down, you fix it, and all your friends have one. -Lou

A friend of mine has one of the original PS3s with the 60 Ghz memory payed something like $600.00 for it. I was with him when he bought it I was amazed at how he just through his money down like he was buying a 1 dollar candy bar. The first generation ones had the backwards compatibility so he could play all of his old PS 1 and 2 games. New ones don't have this option but a PS2 is a cheap pick up even new. The Blueray impressed me aswell as all the music and stuff he has been able to save on it. About a year ago it went down on him and you would've sworn someone killed his best dog, but Sony took care of him quickly and cheaply. I feel the issue was Sony's or they would have left him sore on the bill. But it still seems to be able to do more than the Xbox.
I want to go out nice and peaceful in my sleep like my grandfather, not screaming and hollering like the passengers in his car.

PS3, more reliable, free online, built in internet reciever (100 bucks for Xbox), better procesor, Blueray, quieter.

For me its about the games...and there is nothing on 360 that makes me want one. Thats why I bought a PS3...well that and FFXIII and GT5 are coming out. Better games, Blu Ray and free online...

We have two PS3's in our house. Games are good and getting better all the time. Sony lagged behind early on but developers have figured out how to harness the PS3 power now. PS3 is a better machine than the 360.

I really have to say I'm quite shocked. I bet a 7 months ago the results would have been different. It's been years since I've owned a console, but when I did the PS3 was sort of a joke because there were no titles and they were extremely over priced.

                            Psh. GT5

Forza 3 is way better from what I've seen of GT5. Not to mention I already can (and do) play Forza while GT5 doesn't even have a concrete release date.

                            On topic I say Xbox.

You have to keep in mind this is for kids. What appeals to kids won't appeal to us. Kids will probably want multiplatform games and from most of what I've played, they run a little better on Xbox than PS3. A lot of PS3 exclusives are rated M and for a reason. The only PS3 exclusive I can see being a good game for kids is Little Big Planet. I wouldn't want my 10-year-old playing Killzone 2 or MGS4. Better graphics probably won't matter to them since they've been playing a Wii, which is just a slightly more powerful Gamecube.

The PS3 is certainly a more powerful system, I just can't think of many games for kids for it.

Thanks for all the infos guys! I was not expecting so much feedback! You rock!

For the infos, kids are 10, 12 and 14... I've read all the answers and I think the PS3 sounds like an interesting product.

So, I checked on online stores and I saw that there is a 120gb and 250gb version? Does the size of the HD really matter on a game console? And except adding a second controler, do I need to buy any other accessories???

                              ---------------
                              Edited:
I just read that you can watch Divx and Xvid videos on the PS3!!! Sounds even more interesting!!! :-)
